As long as I am on the face of this earth, I will proclaim what I think is the greatest invention.
The bicycle.
Unless you're a Canadian standing in two feet of snow. Then it’s the shovel.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a Bike Bridge cross the Grand River at the Preston Arena? It could be sponsor by someone with lots of money.. Let's think... Hmm a local car company demonstrating how environmentally minded they could be? My thoughts and a reply .. see below
Take a trip to Cleveland, USA for a wild ride and adventure. Ray's indoor park.
With many empty buildings around (someone with money, the old Kralinator filter) maybe we could have our own indoor bike park???

Bikers and others
I hope you had a well attended meeting at the Cambridge Mall in regards to Cambridge Bikeway Network Study Update. I did show up and just wanted to remind you of couple of my thoughts. A bike path extensions from Bishop street at the Preston Arena. Create a bridge that would cross the Grand into the protected area on the other side of the river.. As I told you growing in Preston, Cambridge all my life the maps always showed a proposed Hi-way on the other side of the river. This would have relieved congestion downtown Preston. It never happened so... For our grandchildren sake; My idea is if a biker wanted to travel south to Galt or North to Kitchener this bridge would link to your great bikeway on the other side of the river.. It would give people incentive to walk or ride along the beautiful Grand... that's it.
p.s. plus path under the bridge on Speedville road. Another thought since I left you.. Eagle street in Preston, I think the road is going to be fixed.. not even a sidewalk for bikers to ride... Good luck
Bob reply:
A quick comment about that proposed Grand River bridge from Linear Trail across to the Grand Trunk Trail.
Our 1996 Cambridge Trail Master Plan included that bridge. We called it the 'jewell of the Grand'. We even went so far as to talk with the then owners of the land .... University of Guelph.
In quick summary, I am willing to bet that the bridge will never be constructed, and here are the reasons:
[1] too many municipal jurisdictions and environmental restrictions starting with GRCA floodplain
[2] the simple cost to design a structure that would not harm environment ... who pays
[3] finally, and most significant, the wintering bald eagle. The OMNR studies clearly identify the area as critical zones for our winter visitors. And as such NO new trails should be built within the mapped zones. In fact the Walter Bean proposed ped bridge over the Grand River north of 401 will be seasonal, just like access to Moyers Landing park.
And just to be accurate, the OMNR did not rule out the construction of an auto bridge across the Grand.. In fact, the feathered friends have once again arrived and usually spend part of each day up around the 6 lane highway 401 bridge ..... despite what the scare mongers have said about roads and eagles.

My final bike thought or dream is not everyone in the world can own a car, but everyone could own a bike. Everyone could be in great shape!
