We are so thrilled that you have joined us today for our 13th annual ProAm Classic in support of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Together, over the last 13 years, we have been successful in raising almost $600,000 dollars to benefit patients at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

You, our golfers and corporate sponsors, are the reason that this tournament is so successful. Especially this year, when so many are reducing their community contributions, you decided that our hospital was a priority. We would like to challenge all of you to consider our other participating businesses when you are considering a new project or purchase, either personally or professionally. Through supporting each other we all win, and the community wins as well.

This year’s tournament proceeds will help to purchase a defibrillator and other ICU equipment. This defibrillator will directly benefit patients by saving lives in our Intensive Care Unit. You may recall that last year’s funds helped to purchase pediatric colonoscope, and other complementary surgical equipment.

We must also extend a special thank you to ALL of our volunteers who made this event come together. Our organizing committee and our ‘event day’ volunteers dedicate their time and efforts to pull together a great tournament. Again this year, we are delighted to have many volunteers from the Hospital Volunteer Association join us. Thank you for helping out.

Most importantly, thank you, and enjoy your day of Golf!

Sam Purdy, CMHF Board Chair & Ingrid Town, CMHF Executive Director

Intensive Care (ICU) is home to about 600 of our most critical patients each year, including patients like Anita. Whether their critical nature is a result of an injury or a cardiac or post-surgical complication, sometimes their condition can worsen before it gets better. That’s why it is so vital to have a special defibrillator close at hand. Just in case the unexpected happens. This device can truly save a life.

This year’s ProAm Tournament has allowed us to raise funds to purchase a Defibrillator Monitor for our Intensive Care (ICU) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital .

A defibrillator can re-start a heart when it has stopped beating, through the use of external or internal paddles. A defibrillator is sometimes used to coax an irregular beating heart back into rhythm. After resuscitation or rhythm recovery, the defibrillator provides ongoing monitoring information until the patient has stabilized. The equipment is lightweight and portable and can easily be transported with the patient to another area of the hospital.
Each year our required equipment lists grow, as new technology is discovered, and as current equipment simply wears out. This past year our Foundation was able to transfer $2.9 million to the Hospital for equipment purchases and upgrades to patient areas. This was only possible because of generous community donors like you.
Today, you are making an investment in our community’s well being. You are making a remarkable difference for patients like Anita, who may spend several months on ventilator assistance, and who will sleep better knowing that the best defibrillator technology is close by.

This year, the Greenhorizons Group has the privilege of being CMHF’s Major Sponsor for the 2009 ProAm Golf Classic. Ron Schiedel, president of his family owned company is no stranger to this event, being an active board member of this tournament for the past 10 years and a participant as well.

In addition to running a successful Sod business that services from Etobicoke to Windsor and including Niagara, the company was also the first to introduce Bulk Bag Soil into the North American market. As well, Willow Valley Golf course in Mount Hope is another jewel in the Greenhorizons crown.

Greenhorizons are proud to be among the dozens of companies and individuals who has made this event extremely successful year after year. Ron concludes, “There are no negatives in this event because everyone wins big. And long after the glory of the top team fades; lives are still being affected at Cambridge Memorial Hospital as a result of our participation.”

Together we have made the grass greener
on the CMH side of the fence.

Once again, this year has been a highlight for me to shoot each of the contributing teams for the CMHF 2009 ProAm Golf tournament. Of course having a Golf Course for a backdrop has made my job easy and fun...

Over the years I've had great "chauffeur's" and this year was no exception. It was cool to meet and photograph Walter Gretzgy with Natalie Bodnar, my volunteer Chauffeur for this year.

It's been a privilege to work with so many great people who make a huge difference in our community.

This year we're REVVED up to shoot for Laboratory equipment

For the Benefit of Others...

…this is why 150 of us get together every year in June to help raise funds that in turn make a substantial positive impact on patient care at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
At the same time we enjoy each other’s company and have a lot of fun doing it!
All funds raised this year will be used purchase vital laboratory equipment that will enhance the quality of care in our hospital.
We are also celebrating our 14th Annual Pro Am Classic, and this too is an achievement. Many of you have been involved in this fine event for over a decade, and your dedication and continued support is to be commended. This event has raised over $650,000 since it started and with that we’ve purchased a lengthy list of much needed patient equipment.
I’m proud to announce this is the first time in a couple of years that the tournament was SOLD OUT. Following a challenging economic year, such high participation speaks volumes to your support of our hospital and we thank you for it.
I would like to thank Darryl King, President of Logikor Inc., for their generous support as our Title Sponsor this year. This event relies not only on our great golfers but also on our local corporate partners who graciously support us each year through sponsorship. We thank each of our sponsors this year and ask that you take notice of their support.

I’d also like to thank my fellow committee members whose efforts behind the scene ensure this is an enjoyable day for all of us. Also special recognition and thanks to our event volunteers who provide support and, perhaps most importantly, are on the look-out for that winning hole-in-one today!

Lastly a big thank you to Sue Lockett and the staff at the Hospital Foundation who truly are the foundation of events like this that provide much needed financial support for the Hospital. Their efforts directly improve the level of healthcare in our community and we
thank you for it.
Thanks again for your support
and enjoy the day,
Scott

2010 Fundraising Target...
What we’re SHOOTING fore!
Laboratory Equipment

What does a hospital lab do?
Our laboratory performs tests on clinical specimens in order to build a health profile of a patient pertaining to their diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease or illness. These results are then provided to the physician so she can make the best treatment decisions for each patient.
Our lab team collects and tests various bodily products, such as blood, urine, or stool. Many problems within the body will show up in these samples. Infections from bacteria or viruses can be isolated so doctors know which medicines are most effective in eliminating them. Lab tests can also detect environmentally induced problems within the body. If a person has too much of a certain mineral in his body, for example, it can be measured to give the doctor a clearer idea of a patient’s health.
The laboratory provides service on a 24 hour basis to meet the clinical needs of our hospital programs. Our lab also maintains a current blood supply in our Blood Bank so that if patients need blood for any reason, we can cross-match the blood to be sure it is compatible with the patient’s blood and transfuse it as needed.
Up-to-date laboratory equipment is absolutely essential in providing diagnostic tests for our patients. All departments of the hospital rely on lab results to determine the next treatment action for a patient. We test for everything from viruses, pregnancy hormones and cancer cells. A simple test can often eliminate the need for additional medication, ultrasound tests or return visits.
At least 80% of all clinical decisions made by treating physicians are based on test results provided by our hospital laboratory.
Your participation in our tournament is allowing us to purchase new equipment for our Laboratory at Cambridge Memorial. Pieces required this year include an Embedding Centre, Analytical Balance, Cyto-Spin Centrifuge, Blood Banking Instrument, and Urinalysis Verification Software. Thank you for helping to make this possible by providing future patients with faster and more effective testing equipment.
